Summer Horsemanship Camps

Throughout the summer, Baymare Farm offers a variety of day camps which give students an opportunity for a more “in depth” horse experience. A day at camp is meant to simulate what it is truly like to have a horse of one’s own, and includes all aspects of horse care as well as a group riding lesson.

For 2011, we have expanded the selection of camps.  New this year is the “Leg-up” program, designed specifically for riders with little or no horse experience prior to camp.  This camp is for ages 8 and up.  Each student will have an individual helper, or “wrangler”, as well as their riding instructor. The camp day will run from 9-12 and will include a group riding lesson and basic horsemanship instruction.

The next level is “Junior/Novice” camp.  This is for students who have completed the “Leg-up” level and are able to ride safely and independently in a group.  Riders must either be regular Baymare students or pass a riding evaluation for placement.  Camp day is from 9-2, and includes a group lesson, stable management, and a variety of “hands-on” skills.

Last is “Canter Camp”.  This camp is for Intermediate and up riders.  Riders need to be secure at all three gaits and able to ride safely in a group in the large outdoor ring.  Canter Camp riders must either be regular Baymare students or pass a riding evaluation for placement.  Camp day is from 9-2, and includes a group lesson, stable management, and a variety of “hands-on” skills.

Jr./Novice and Canter Camp riders need to bring a bag lunch and water jug; Leg-up campers should bring a snack and drink.
